Why We Like It
This enrichment can be used for carnivores and herbivores alike, but is really great for simulating climbing behavior in large carnivores. Leopards, caracals, and other climbing carnivores will be able to use their claws to steady the log while licking off the meat and blood. This is a great on-exhibit enrichment that provides talking points for natural hunting and climbing behaviors.

Hole saw (1"-2" works best)

Log (sized for your animal--must be able to hang from chain)

How to Make It

Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of your screw eye to drill a hole in the top of the log. Screw the screw eye into the hole.

Use your hole saw drill attachment to drill various holes around the log

Thoroughly clean the log before spreading meat, blood, peanut butter, and other tasty foods in the log's holes

To hang the log, pass a chain through the screw eye and lock both ends of the chain together around a secure point in the exhibit
